About ASCO 2020

Founded in 1964, the American Society of Clinical Oncology is the world's leading professional organization for physicians and oncology professionals caring for people with cancer. ASCO Promotes and Provides For Lifelong learning for oncology professionals, Cancer research. An improved environment for oncology practice, A global network of oncology expertise, and ASCO is supported by its affiliate organization, the Conquer Cancer Foundation, which funds ground breaking research and programs that make a tangible difference in the lives of people with cancer.ASCO’s strategic plan outlines the Society’s approach to leading the delivery of information and diverse expertise needed by the global oncology community to reduce the burden of cancer. The plan also defines goals that will mark progress towards this outcome. ASCO’s diverse network of nearly 45,000 oncology professionals recognizes ASCO's dedication to providing the highest-quality resources in education, policy, the pioneering of clinical research, and above all, advancing the care for patients with cancer. ASCO is unique in that we are the only organization that encompasses all oncology subspecialties, allowing our members to grow from the professional and personal expertise of their colleagues worldwide and across disciplines. International members make up approximately one-third of the Society’s total membership and represent more than 150 countries. ASCO is governed by a Board of 19 members, including a President-Elect, President, Chair of the Board (seat to be filled starting in 2019), Treasurer, Past President, and 14 Directors. The ASCO Chief Executive Officer and the Chair of the Conquer Cancer Foundation Board of Directors have non-voting seats on the ASCO Board. The Society conducts the majority of its business through various volunteer groups comprised of ASCO members who volunteer their time and effort to Society programs.
